I’ve decided that detailing my personal life isn’t interesting enough to even keep me coming back to write it, so I will try documenting my wine making exploits. While I’m not a big drinker, the process of making the wine is definitely fun. Some chemistry with the odd bit of physics sprinkled in. My first attempt was last summer when I made a Pinot Noir from a kit I picked up at a local home brew store. While the wine wasn’t fantastic (it didn’t kill anybody either), I was rather proud of the labels that I came up with.
Due to wedding planning and pure laziness I haven’t started a new batch of anything since bottling last August, but the week following the wedding I decided to start a batch of Skeeter Pee. It’s a sweet lemon wine, that I guess could be described as a hard lemonade, but isn’t all that similar to the commercial hard lemonades. Below is a picture after the wine has been clearing for about 24 hours. I really wish I had a picture what it looked like prior to adding the Sparkalloid, but here’s an example from someone else. It was pretty amazing the difference just a few hours after. I will hopefully be able to sweeten it this weekend and then bottle 1-2 weeks after that.
